It was a really great two days of workshops with Gwen Marston, such an easy going woman and a pleasure to be around.
It was also a great reminder of how I love to work, very liberated! Several years ago I did much of this kind of piecing, and was then distracted by art quilts and mixed media works. I am so thankful to have explored those methods, but this is home to me and I look forward to playfully exploring many new and old aspects of it. Here is the first.
This was created for a friend that is expecting a baby boy in June. I had SO much fun making this! The green fabrics and one blue, are Amy Butler solids, I love, love, love her colors, the white and the blue in the borders are Kona Crush, love that texture, then a few scraps thrown in and a novelty or two. I decided to simply quilt about 1/4" inside most of the pieces, skipping some of the smaller ones. The back looks like building blocks, pretty cool.
I really like the empty spaces created by not quilting every piece. It was enjoyable to work in these colors, seems like all of the babies have been girls lately, and it felt like I was creating my own spring with the blues and greens. It's so good to be home!
