The chickens have been trying to speak to me. They have abandoned the nesting boxes where they normally lay their eggs. I have found eggs on the back porch bench, inside a porch cabinet that they got the door open on, and inside this metal bucket which they so deliberately unpotted every petunia I had planted in it!
As I was stumbling through the yard in the dark the other night, I had my handy little flashlight scanning the yard for beady little critter eyes. I, not so casually, stepped up into the henhouse, as usual, and quickly began using sailor language! A snake about 4 and 1/2 feet long was creeping in through the backdoor! I tried to kill it but there is only so much you can see and do with a flashlight and a shovel at the same time! My death dance found the flashlight shining on the stars and then flashing to my feet, making his escape certain.
Today I went to the feed store and got him some eggs of his own. I trust he'll be back.
Half a flat of petunia's $10
3 porcelain eggs $ 4.50
Avoiding the next heart attack Priceless!
May you have a priceless day as well!
